Vascular surgery

VUP Medical, a.s. (formerly Vyzkumny ustav pletarsky/Knitting Research Institute) is the first European, developer and producer of knitted vascular prostheses. The development and the production of this product date back to as early as 1958. The first successful  implantation of the prosthesis was carried out in 1961. Since that time, VUP Medical, a.s. has been working constantly on the development of the artificial  vascular replacements.  VUP Medical's total number of produced and implemented vascular grafts has reached more than one hundred thousand pieces.

What we treat?

One of the most frequent illneses treated by VUP Medical prostheses is Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). An abdominal aortic aneurysm is an enlarged area in the lower part of the aorta, the major blood vessel that supplies blood to the body. The aorta, about the thickness of a garden hose, runs from your heart through the center of your chest and abdomen. Because the aorta is the body's main supplier of blood, a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm can cause life-threatening bleeding.

Vascular surgery products

We provide modern line of knitted, polyester vascular prosthesis and vascular patches, in several variants. They are designed and produced to treat abdominal aortic aneurysm, aortoiliac occlusive disease and peripheral arterial disease.
